The Secretary of the Navy, the Honorable Ray Mabus, is scheduled toarrive on Guam Aug. 23.
During his visit, Mabus will meet with military leaders andGovernment of Guam officials. He also plans to visit Saipan to meet withgovernment representatives. A press conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 24,on U.S. Naval Base Guam at the Joint Region Marianas Headquarters.
Mabusis the 75th United States Secretary of the Navy. As Secretary, he leadsAmerica's Navy and Marine Corps and is responsible for an annual budget inexcess of $150 billion and almost 900,000 people.
The Secretary of the Navy is responsible for conducting allthe affairs of the Department of the Navy, including recruiting, organizing,supplying, equipping, training, and mobilizing. Additionally, he oversees theconstruction, outfitting, and repair of naval ships, equipment and facilities,and is responsible for the formulation and implementation of policies andprograms that are consistent with the national security policies and objectivesestablished by the President and the Secretary of Defense.
